On May 18th 2011, the Women’s Post held their Courage to Lead networking series at the Stirling Room, which is located in the heart of the gorgeous Distillery District in downtown, Toronto. It’s been open since July 2010, and will soon be celebrating its one-year anniversary. Although many still consider the area a tourist destination, in the coming years it’s soon to become one of the largest waterfront redevelopment areas in North America.
The Distillery has European flair, and the founders of Stirling Room wanted to step outside of the box and create a venue away from the typical entertainment districts - a feat they have managed successfully. Though there have been a number of challenges over the course of the year, the word has gotten out that there is in fact a lounge on this side of the city. After a dinner at one of the many renowned restaurants in the Distillery, you now also have the option of going out for drinks without having to travel to the west end.
One striking feature of the Stirling Room is the Victorian gothic style posters hanging inside the club. Samantha Gass, who handles marketing and strategy for Stirling Room, explains that the designer, Prototype Lab Design, drew inspiration from LA nightclub, The Edison. The pictures, apparently, are from a famous Vogue editorial spread.
The crowd has been consistent over the past year, with young working professionals making up the bulk of guests.
The space is intimate but there is room to move around and mingle. It was the perfect space for our Courage to Lead event and the staff here at Women’s Post enjoyed the event working with both familiar and new faces.
Samantha says that at the end of the day, the people who work at Stirling Room enjoy people coming in and having a good time, whether it’s a corporate party or just a night out on the town.
