Office Talk-Garbage or Gold

February 9, 2010 - 12:10pm — by Solange des Vignes

As we enter the second week of February, it seems that this is the time when everyone’s New Years resolutions start to fly through the window. Animosity, violence, infidelity seem to be all I’m seeing everywhere I turn. Is it really that difficult to be happy and live life in a way that brings positivity to you and as a result everyone around you? Right here in Toronto we’re seeing angry riders swearing at TTC workers and even a man complaining and starting a mini-Facebook revolt about burnt coffee. Come on, really?

HOT DRAMA...

January 5, 2010 - 10:22pm — by Adam Mazerall

...NEEDS TO STOP!

I get it. You're women. You were born with the theatrical gene. But seriously, ladies...can we try to move past high school and learn to get along? Let me preface the remainder of this post with this disclaimer: yes, men, boys, and the like are guilty of dramatic crimes against humanity, but let us be honest with each other - women are the primary culprits of this plague.

Is hip-hop homophobic? The rise of "no homo."

October 19, 2009 - 10:21pm — by Andrea Benotas

I've always been an avid listener of hip-hop music. Ever since I was introduced to the likes of Notorious B.I.G. and Missy Elliott when I was only about 10 years old by a friends' older brother, I haven't been able to shake my affinity for the genre. I don't know what attracted me to rap and hip-hop music then, but I'd venture to say it's the clever puns, play on words, and genius manipulation of language prevalent in lyricist hip-hop that continues to fascinate me in the present.

Tween tweeterbug quits Twitter

October 13, 2009 - 10:36pm — by Amanda-Marie Quintino

Attention all Twits: Miley Cyrus is calling it quits.

And she's doing it in rapping, rhyming style, too.

A week or so ago, Miley's "No More Twitter" rap hit YouTube and it's been getting lots and lots of attention. Which I suppose is what she was going for. She wanted to make a statement. And she did -- a very creative and of course cheezy one at that. Not to mention a tad weird but hey, it most definitely caught my attention.

The last time I checked, it was actually on YouTube's home page for one of the site's most viewed videos.

TIFF: Emily Hampshire, Brilliant Yet Again

September 3, 2009 - 10:38am — by Aleksandra Hernandez

Star gazing in Toronto? It’s that exciting time of the year again when the city rolls out its sizzling red carpet and anxiously awaits for the return of the bold and the beautiful. Thank goodness we’re no longer dealing with the garbage strike!

Last year I almost had a heart attack when I saw Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, and Ryan Gosling. This year I’ve found myself day-dreaming about having a conversation with Hugh Jackman at the local Starbucks, or bumping into George Clooney, while walking around Yorkville. Sigh.

Paula Abdul Leaves Idol

August 6, 2009 - 9:34am — by Katie Solakofski

Yesterday it was announced that Paula Abdul would not be returning to American Idol for season 9. Personally I'm not all that saddened. True, it might not be the same without her babbling critiques, but in all honesty, I like Kara Dioguardi better. After 8 consecutive years, hearing the same old mush about every contestant gets old. I understand that you’re in love with them all Paula. I get it, really.

Chris Brown Apologizes To Fans For Beating

July 21, 2009 - 9:19am — by Katie Solakofski

Five months ago Chris Brown and Rihanna stole headlines with their pre-Grammy domestic dispute. Pictures circled for ages of Rihanna’s bruised and battered face, and there were a number of public announcements. Then the hype sort of died away. But once again people have started taking sides, rooting for, or against Chris Brown now that he has released his public apology.

Who is Virgilio Anderson?

July 2, 2009 - 10:33am — by Katie Solakofski

Usually while scanning through the trending topics on Twitter, I can recognize nine out of ten of the names that might be listed. Lately it's been even easier, since half the topics have all been focused around Michael Jackson. But this morning the one topic I didn't recognize was #virgilioanderson.

Now I'm not saying I always know that the trending are about, but after reading a few posts of what people are saying about the topics, it's generally easy to judge what's going on. Most of the comments people were making on this topic was the same as me: "who is #virgilioanderson"

Michael Jackson is NO FDR

July 2, 2009 - 9:56am — by Corinne Stancescu

Online Death Toll: 11
Celebrity Death Toll: 5

After the devastating death of Michael Jackson last week the media has gone into a fury with reporting celebrity deaths. It started with Rick Astley's suicide in a Berlin hotel room. Then it went into full blast targeting A-List actors and musicians. From Miley to Ellen to Geroge and even Britney.

A similar online death frenzy occurred in 1945 with the death of US President at the time, Franklin D. Roosevelt. Frank Sinatra, Jack Dempsey, Charlie Chaplin, Babe Ruth were all dead according to the media.

Where Were You When Pop Music Died?

June 26, 2009 - 5:38am — by Miranda Voth

First there was the question, where were you when 9/11 happened?

Then there was, where were you when Obama was elected?

Now we have, where were you the day Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett died? I want to know. Leave your comment below.

Wow, epic day. No one saw that coming, MJ. You always had a way of surprising your audience.

I started painting my new apartment yesterday. I got bored quick so I went into a sketchy China Town store to buy speakers for my iPod. My new room mate called and said, "wow, can you believe today?"
