The taurus prince, oh baby!

I have to admit I was on edge like much of the world and other royal enthusiasts, while awaiting the arrival of Prince William and Duchess Kate’s third child. The day has arrived. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge just welcomed a healthy baby boy – weighing 8 lbs 7 ounces-at St. Mary’s Hospital in London this morning.

Brits have already begun celebration for St. George’s Day and now the newest little royal has encouraged more. The baby’s name is not known at this time. The town crier announced the birth this morning and the London Eye is set to be lit up this evening with colours of the Union Jack to mark the royal’s birth.

The royal couple’s third is a Taurus, which means he’s definitely going to have a personality that makes an impression and will easily make any home his castle, as evidence from today’s horoscope.

Kate and William’s third child is now 5th in line for the British throne, which means that Prince Harry is bumped down to 6th.  Princess Charlotte remains 4th in line for the throne after British rules were changed two years ago, allowing female children to be regarded equally. In previous years, Charlotte would be 6th in line for the throne behind her uncle, Prince Harry. Prince William’s younger brother has always doted on his niece and nephew and will likely be overjoyed for his brother and sister-in-law. Harry is also getting ready for an exciting day in May.

He and Suits star Meghan Markle will wed in mid-May at Windsor Castle. Kate and William’s two older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will reportedly be a part of the wedding party. The new royal baby will likely be in attendance with the Duke and Duchess at the event.

Royal wedding news: Here’s the scoop

It seems like I can’t turn on the television or browse the magazine rack  without seeing images of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, The couple are certainly captivating and have everyone antsy to learn the details of their upcoming May wedding. I have to admit, I’m giddy with anticipation for the big day.
It wasn’t quite a rags to riches fairy tale for Markle, who spent years as a Toronto resident.  The former Suits star was  far from the household name she is at this point, prior to starting her romance with Harry. Now the couple are set to marry in mid-May while royal enthusiasts and Markle fans sit on edge anticipating images and information about the dress, the guest list, the honeymoon and everything in between. Here are the few, vague details that are known at this point:
 The venue
The wedding between Meghan and Harry will take place on May 19, 2018 in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. After their vows at 1 pm, the married pair will  take a carriage ride through the town of Windsor,
U.K.
The dress
Anyone who thinks the dress designer will be shared ahead of the big day, is off their rocker. It’s now confirmed that Meghan has selected and her Canadian pal, Jessica Mulroney- stylist and wedding consultant- was in London assisting Meghan with the process. Only a handful of people actually know who the dress designer is. Judging by Markle’s fashion selections lately, the dress is sure to be a showstopper.
The wedding party
The only confirmed members of the wedding party are Prince William and Duchess Kate’s two little ones, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. It’s also being rumored that Jessica Mulroney’s daughter Ivy may be the flower girl.
The guest list
It was announced that  2,640 members of the public were invited to the wedding. Aside from that, little is known about celebrities and other members of the royal family who will attend. It is likely that Prince William and Duchess Kate will be there, along with William and Harry’s immediate family. Markle’s own relatives -including her half sister and half brother- have caused a bit of drama.
Meghan’s half brother,Thomas Markle, was involved in a drunken New Year’s brawl which apparently embarrassed the future royal. Her half sister,  Samantha Grant, has been threatening to release a tell-all book revealing supposed negative details about Meghan. It’s unlikely that the two will be invited. Meghan’s mother and father are reported to be attending, seeing as they are close with the actress. Oh, and the Spice Girls may also make an appearance!

From small screen starlet to British royalty, Meghan Markle has certainly put her name on the map, while also carrying on with humanitarian endeavors- much like Harry- benefiting young girls and women in impoverished nations.
She and Prince Harry were once considered an odd couple and unlikely match, but the two are now one of the most adored couples around the globe. Their wedding is sure to be one spectacular event.

Should Canadian media be following Kate Middleton’s daily fashion?

Canadians have long been fascinated by the Royal family, especially their trend-setting fashion. Now that “The Royals”, aka Prince William, Duchess Kate Middleton, and their two children are in Canada touring, people are paying even closer attention to their fashion choices. What’s been added to the proverbial royal fashion vault of glory, which of course is studded in overly expensive jewels?

By comparing Queen Elizabeth II to Kate Middleton, it is easy to see that trends have become increasingly more casual (cue broadcast jingle for this shockingly important news). Middleton can be spotted in a number of simple get-ups ranging from cargo pants to jeans while she treks around the world on various royal tours. Queen Elizabeth II also has a remarkably simple, classy style, wearing trench coats (what is she hiding in there?) and gloves. Princess Diana modernized the royal fashion trend substantially, wearing bolder outfits that would make any eighties’ diva proud.

Fast forward to now and we see Middleton somewhere in the middle of Princess Diana’s bold trends and Queen Elizabeth’s ‘snoozy’ outfit choices. Since the Duchess has been in Canada with Prince William visiting B.C and the Yukon, she has sported several extremely expensive ensemble, ranging from a McQueen’s red and white dress and a red Preen dress to a smart green Dolce and Cabana with gold buttons.

Okay, we need a reality check here.

Middleton’s daily fashion trends are literally being stalked by various fashion (and news!) publications while she remains in Canada. My response: who cares! There is a point where commenting on an elegant gown on a special royal evening is appropriate, but literally judging, criticizing, and writing about Middleton’s daily outfits? That is absolute madness. In the midst of several prevalent news items, fashion updates from the royal duchess should not be Canada’s priority on the twitter newsfeed.

Instead of obsessing over Middleton’s outfits, maybe investigate what happens to each of these expensive royal outfits after it has been worn once. Where is it discarded? What is the benefit of parading rich royals around the country and footing the bill when we are in the midst of a national affordable housing crisis? When we need transit funding? When the economy is the dumps? It is a temporary distraction to be sure, but I’d like to see more charitable benefits come from royal fashion choices before I jump on the royal bandwagon.

So, don’t click on that article about Middleton’s next outfit. Instead, change the channel to what’s going on in Syria. And then donate all of your old clothes to the Salvation Army. Let’s change our priorities fellow Canadians. Royal fashion reminding us of colonial wealth should not be important in our modern educated world.
